Saturday, January 20th, 2007

Checking for a bad bake element:

  1. You could determine whether the element is bad or not by looking at it. Check the body and see if there are any burn marks. If so, you probably have to replace it.
  2. A more effective way would be to check the bake element for continuity. You can do that by using an ohmmeter. If the ohmmeter shows no resistance, the bake element is bad and needs to be replaced. Note: Always unplug your appliance when testing any of the components.

This bake element will fit some ovens and ranges made by Maytag, Amana, Caloric, Sunray, Modern Maid, and Glendwood. Approximate size: Length: 15-1/2″, width: 15-1/4″, spacing between terminals: 13-1/3″. Made by Maytag. Part Number: 77001092.

Maytag Oven Igniter (12400035)

Saturday, December 2nd, 2006

When a Maytag oven stops working, some would automatically think that there’s something wrong with the gas valve. Most of the time the gas valve is okay. The most common cause would be the oven igniter. How to tell if you’re igniter is bad? If it glows bright white, there’s nothing wrong with it. However, if the glow is orange or red, it probably needs to be replaced.
