Thermador Oven Recall Due to Fire (released 06-29-2007)

Fri, Jun 29, 2007

Appliance Recall Information

ThermadorThermador announced today a recall of about 42,000 Thermador built-in ovens. This latest recall comes only 22 days after Thermador’s cooktop recall. The threat is the same – fire hazard. The problem with these ovens is that the oven can have gaps in the insulation where overheating can occur and when used in the self-cleaning mode it can cause nearby cabinets to overheat (self-cleaning mode can heat the oven up to over 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit). Obviously, this can pose a fire hazard to consumers.

Involved in this recall are Thermador built-in single ovens and conventional oven and microwave combos that were sold at appliance and specialty stores nationwide from November 2004 through May 2007 for between $2,400 and $3,900. Single ovens include C271B, C301B, SEC271B and SEC301B models, while combo ovens include SEM272B, SEM302B, SEMW272B and SEMW302B models, all with date codes between FD8403 and FD8701. Both the model number and the date code can be found on a small tag on the underside of the control panel.

So far, there has been 10 incidents reported with one of them resulting in a fire that caused extensive property damage. No injuries have been reported.

Thermador’s remedy:  Consumers should stop using the oven’s self-cleaning mode and contact BSH Home Appliances immediately to schedule an inspection and free repair, if necessary.

You can contact Thermador/BSH Home Appliances at 800-701-5230 between 7am and 11pm ET Monday through Friday.

  3. Oven Cleaning Says:

For best results you should not really use the self cleaning mode on an oven anyway. The oven doesn;t get hot enough to get rif of the debris and the grease can hide behind the self cleaning casing and cause a fire. Its best to cleaning manually to get a cleaning safer oven
