Whirlpool Dryer Gas Valve Coil Kit (279834)
Fri, Dec 1, 2006
Even though Whirlpool dryers are great to use and are mostly reliable, problems can still occur at any time. Most dryer problems are simple to fix. Especially gas valve coils. Checking to see if the dryer igniter is glowing would probably be a good idea. That will tell you if the coils are bad.
There are two ways to find the igniter. Your dryer could have either one large panel covering the front or it could be split up into two panels with a smaller one at the bottom.
Dryer with one panel:
- There should be a little plug located at the bottom left corner. All you do is remove that plug and look through the hole where you should directly see the igniter. Keep in mind that the igniter only glows when the dryer is on and be very careful not to touch anything. You could get burned.
Dryer with two panels:
- You would probably want to use a screwdriver to remove the panel. You don’t need to unscrew anything. Just pop the panel out. The igniter should be visible. Again, be very careful while the dryer is on.
If the igniter glows, it most likely means that the gas valve coils went bad.
These gas valve coils work for most Whirlpool, Kenmore, Roper, Maytag, Frigidaire, Estate, Amana, Kitchen Aid, White-Westinghouse, GE, and Hotpoint gas dryers. Made by Whirlpool. Part Number: 279834.
