Two ways to check for a bad bake element:
- You can see if you’re bake element is bad by looking for any burn marks on the body. If it looks burnt, it’s most likely bad and needs to be replaced.
- The other way is to check for resistance. Using and ohmmeter, you can check if the element has any continuity. If your ohmmeter shows zero ohms, the bake element needs to be replaced. Note: Make sure you always unplug your appliance before performing this check.

Just replaced bake element in a Maytag Electric Range model number MER5775QAW the same way it was taken out and does not seem to be preheating….hardly at all….
the number 40 showed up when i pluggeed the range back in, then went away and the clock time appeared…not sure what could be wrong?

Sounds like you may only be getting 110 volts to the element. Turn the power off and make sure both wires are securely connected to the element. Check the circuit breaker just in case.
