Refrigerator Water Filters

The new and improved GE SmartWater water filter replaces most older style GE and Hotpoint filters including the commonly used gwf. It’s a lot easier to install but if you’re replacing this filter for the first time, you’re most likely going to need a special adapter.

Just like most, this filter gets rid of residue like chlorine, lead, rust, and cysts but does not remove fluoride so your ice and water is left tasting clear and fresh. Also, don’t forget to replace your GE SmartWater filter every 6 months.

Replacing the GE SmartWater filter:

  • Twist the old filter counterclockwise, a half-turn.
  • Pull it down and out. Note that the water will automatically shut off.
  • Fill the new filter up with water and push it back in the fridge.
  • Twist it back (clockwise), a half-turn.

-If you have a “change filter” reset button, push it down for a few seconds.

The GE SmartWater filter removes the following:

    • 99.00% of Alachlor
    • 99.00% of Lindane
    • 99.00% of Lead
    • 99.00% of Asbestos
    • 98.00% of Turbidity
    • 98.00% of Carbofuran
    • 99.99% of Cysts
    • 99.00% of P-Dichlorobenzene

    • 93.00% of Toxaphene
