Name Brand or No Brand: Does it Matter?

149728_washing-machine-knobs.jpg    When it comes to choosing appliances for your home, there is often a lot of fuss made over the name brand and what type you should choose. You know that your appliances are important to you. You depend on them on a daily basis. So does it really matter which brands you choose? Does a name brand really stack up and outshine against a no-name brand appliance?

Some people have a brand name that they are used to using and it is important to them to stick with that brand at all costs. Other people just want to go with the cheapest option and often pick no brand named appliances. When shopping for your appliances, are you paying more just to have the brand name while getting the same quality of product or are name brand products really better? Here are some things to consider to help you decide.

What are you getting with the name? When you buy a brand name appliance, what are you really getting with that name? Are you getting a better product? Does it have a longer, more inclusive warranty? Are separate parts warranted as well as the whole? Does it look nicer and have more visual appeal? Does it come with “extras”? Often people feel more confident in brand name appliances and this is not always without reason. Name brand manufacturers know that they have a higher image to maintain and a reputation to keep and therefore, their items will typically be made with a higher standard, their warranties may be better and their customer support options are usually better to deal with.

However, it is a common fact that name brand appliances will cost you more than no brand appliances. In some cases, you may be paying more simply because of the name. This does not always guarantee you that you are getting a better product. Many no brand appliances or lesser known brands can be just as good as the brand name appliances as far and functionality goes.

Some downsides to purchasing no brand appliances are:

·         They may not have a warranty like the brand name appliance

·         It can be difficult to find someone who can repair them

·         It can be difficult or more expensive finding replacement parts if something breaks down

·         They may not be made as well and may break or malfunction easier

When it comes right down to it, it all depends on which suits your needs the best. Brand name does not always guarantee the best so be sure you do your homework and check into a particular make and model of appliance before you purchase it. Read reviews and talk with other people who have used that brand or that particular model even to help you get a better idea for what you can expect. Also be sure to find out both the store and the manufacturer warranties on the appliance. This will help you be a smart shopper so that whether you choose a name brand appliance or a not-so-well-known product, you will be sure you are getting one that meets your needs.
