Appliance Maintenance, Appliance Purchase, Energy Smart Appliances
In today’s world, people are busier than ever before. Their lives revolve around a numerous tasks daily. Computers and technology now occupy every part of daily life, including the centre of the home - the kitchen. Recently, an influx of smart technology has decided to simplify everyday tasks by creating appliances capable of saving time and improving efficiency.

Refrigerators
The evolution in refrigerators has been amazing. Once large white boxes, they existed merely as a means of keeping your food slightly cooler than room temperature. Now, they offer so much more. Not only is there a wide variation in size, but refrigerators now provide different temperature levels for different foods. The separation between fridge and freezer is no longer as clearly defined as technology allows each section to be individually controlled. You can now chill drinks and different foods in minutes and safely defrost meat in only hours.
Increased technology means the ability to make your appliances interactive. There are now refrigerators on the market with programmable LCD screens built right into their doors. This is ideal for many families where the kitchen is the central room of the home. Not only can the cook watch television, but he or she can listen to the radio, access email accounts, post notices and schedules and keep track of play dates, school activities and chores and even, with the addition of a video camera, monitor other areas of the home. Nor is this the only instance of “smart” technology for kitchen appliances.
Ovens
The old-fashioned stove or range has also changed dramatically in the last few decades. They still cook food, but with the newer stoves, you are offered programming options expanded beyond cooking.
Smart technology now allows you to delay the start of your meal. Just before you go to work or step out for the day, you place it in the oven. Electronic controls keep it cool while delaying the start until the designated time then proceed to cook it for the right duration. The smart ovens actually keep it warm until you sit down to eat it. Whirlpool’s Polara refrigerated range is one appliance offering this feature as does TMIO’s 30-inch wall oven. The latter allows you to set the oven timer with your cell phone or computer if you happen to be away.
General Electric offers a model that converts to a microwave and comes programmed with 100 recipes and the capability for you to add more. Meanwhile, Maytag’s Gemini series of ranges are able to cook two different foods at two distinctive temperatures.
Laundry Room
Advances have also been made in laundry room technology. Both washers and dryers now boast smart technology. These cleaning and drying systems have moist or dryness sensors built-in allowing you to custom set or adjust the required drying time to reduce wrinkles, provide a quick dry or fluff. These systems offer specialized care, cutting down on ironing and over all drying time.
In all three instances, it’s welcome to the new age of smart appliances.
